Jazzbelle’s 16th session for WAV is a tribute to Philip Catherinea Belgian guitarist who has been at the forefront of the European jazz scene since the sixties. He studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and started playing professionally when he was only 17. In his long and successful music career he worked together with Dexter Gordon, Chat Baker (with whom he recorded 6 albums), Tom Harrell, Larry Coryell, Lou BennettKenny DrewStéphane Grappelli, Charles Mingus, Karin KrogPaul KuhnMichael MantlerCharlie MarianoNiels-Henning Ørsted PedersenMiroslav Vitous, Jean Luc Ponty and many other jazz legends. Mingus gave him the nickname ‘young Django’ and said that he ‘plays things that cannot be heard by any other guitarist in the world’. His impressive playing technique, unique improvisational style and the highly emotional lyricism of expression have been admired and greatly  influential on the jazz scene.
