Acapulco Nights is not a concept as we hate concepts. It’s not underground or deep either because we hate all those trendy words, they don’t mean shit anyway. We hate a lot more things but that’s just because we are grumpy. Acapulco Nights is about having fun with 80s music such as disco, italo, Hi-NRG, synth-pop, cold wave, chicago house etc etc. As long as we keep the 80s spirit alive and that the music we play rocks and makes the dancefloor sweat.

1. What was the first sound you remember?

The futuristic sound of the first ‘affordable’ analog & digital synthesizers. The sound of the new romantics, the sound of jellybean & Madonna, the sound of Michael Jackson’s Thriller or Janet Jackson’s control.
The development of all these electronic music-devices caused the birth of electro, hip-hop, house, techno and so much more.
And seriously, everything else sounds dull next to a minimoog-bassline.

2. And the first sound that you recognized as music, never to leave your heart/head again?

Again, all these amazingly produced synthpopsongs. Stuff like ABC, Art of Noise, Human League, …, Can’t get enough of the bassline’s, the drumcomputers or even the digital lexicon-reverbs from that era.

3. What did you want to become as a kid?

Top Gun-Pilot I guess

4. Who do you look up to and why?

Vince Clarke from early Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure, …, that guy is a synth-wizard. (New Life, Photographic, … I can’t get enough of these tracks)

‘I’m just an average man, with an average life.’
